You may have heard or seen on the news, that the Melbourne Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market is moving from West Melbourne (on Footscray Road) to a new purpose build facility in Epping (cnr of Cooper Street and the Hume Freeway). You’ve probably passed it, if you ever use the Hume Freeway when heading north towards Albury.
It’s scheduled to open on 3rd August, so both retailers and wholesalers are gearing up for this massive change. Like all change, there will be challenges. Most Melbourne retailers will have to travel further, which will mean getting up earlier (Ah Ah!), and traffic back to their shops and warehouses will probably be worse.
The new facility should be safer from an occupational health and safety point of view, and trucks coming from up north won’t have to travel to the city, so there will be less big trucks clogging up the city streets.
